Temple Talk
If you liked last week's 'Parshat Terumah Extravaganza', you'll really love this week's show: It's a Parshat Tezaveh/Parshat Zachor/Purim/Parshat Ki Tisa/Parshat Parah, hard-hitting, pulling-out-all-the-stops extravaganza! (Actually, our hosts just decided that they like using the word 'extravaganza', so they're using it again this week. Happy Purim!) Rabbi Richman and Yitzchak Reuven give us food for thought for the next two weeks as they prepare for the awesome and holy day of Purim. But first, this week's Torah portion of Tetzaveh tells us all about the Priestly garments, a unique part of G-d's vision for His model world the Holy Temple. What's so special about these garments? Why is their appearance so exacting? And what do the sages mean when they say that the garments 'provide atonement' for a variety of sins? Our hosts share novel Torah insights as they find that 'clothes make the man'.

The Special Sabbath of Parshat Zachor goes against political correctness by teaching us that, as Ecclesiastes records, 'there is a time to hate'? -- and it's a mitzvah, and an eternal obligation at that!

Purim is not only the ultimate revelation of G-d's love for His people Israel, it is also the manifestation of Israel's brotherly love and the ultimate 'reality show', it's during the rest of the year that we really wear a mask! Compared to the clarity of Purim, the rest of the year is simply virtual. Tune in and find out why the holy Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berdichev would kiss each and every gift of food that he received on Purim.

What is the elusive connection between the Golden Calf of Parshat Tetzaveh, and the Red Heifer? The Golden Calf brought the impurity of death into the world, and the Red Heifer brings the secret of eternal life. Why? Rabbi Richman and Yitzchak Reuven discuss the 'real' sin of the Golden Calf: The falsehood of imagery, expectations, and the desire to control. Putting a name on things unspeakable for our own convenience so that we can continue worshipping ourselves, that's the ultimate idolatry, and the impurity of death from which the cleansing ashes of the Red Heifer 'the secret of humility' comes to purify us.

There will be no new Temple Talk during the week of Purim. The next Temple Talk will be broadcast on Tuesday, March 17th.

Be sure to catch these teachings in WMV or MP3 format: Weekly Torah Portion: Tetzave Clothes make the man. This old saw is certainly applicable to the case of the kohen gadol - the high priest and his 'garments of glory and splendor'. The garments themselves possess an intrinsic holiness. Their detailed components each can effect an atonement for the vast array of human failings. The kohen gadol, when wearing the garments and achieving a level of self-conscious identification with the human character common to all of us, can open up a window of atonement and spiritual realignment through will we all can emerge enhanced and ennobled, if we but take hold of the moment.

Light to the Nations with Rabbi Chaim Richman: The Temple Mount Today Maimonides, Laws of the Chosen House, chapter 7: The Rambam states, in clear and unmistakable words, that the obligation, and the privilege
of ascending and being present on the Temple Mount, the site of the Holy Temple, is a positive commandment even when the Holy Temple is in a state of destruction. In other words, visiting the Temple Mount today, in accordance with the prescribed behavior as previously delineated by Maimonides, constitutes the fulfillment of a positive commandment, and the performer of this commandment should be highly praised. A must watch for all who hold the Holy Temple dear to their heart.
