Temple Talk
In another stunning confluence of time and Torah, this week we mark the New Moon of the month of Nisan just as we have concluded the book of Exodus and begin reading the book of Leviticus. According to tradition, the desert Tabernacle was actually consecrated on the first day of the month of Nisan, and on that very day, fire from Heaven descended onto the altar and the Divine Presence rested amongst mankind. When the tabernacle was created, we read over and over again about the quality of “heart” – a wise heart and a knowing heart – that was a prerequisite for the architects, builders and craftsmen of the Tabernacle. Just what is it about the heart that is such a necessary quality in the men who are to build the Temple? And what does this mean for us today, in our generation?

The month of Nisan is the time of spring, and the very heavens and the earth itself joyfully proclaim the Creator’s sovereignty, as His will in creating the world is finally fulfilled through the Tabernacle. Indeed, according to the Talmud, this is the time of the world’s creation! Tune in to this week’s Temple Talk as Rabbi Richman and Yitzchak Reuven discuss the spiritual dimensions of the month of Nisan, the qualities needed to build a house for G-d, and an introduction to the book of Leviticus, G-d’s special manual for the service in the Holy Temple.
