Temple Talk
As we begin the book of Leviticus, questions abound: Is this for real? Are we supposed to be taking this seriously... will there be animal sacrifices again, or is it all just ancient history? And don't some rabbis explain away the whole practice? Rabbi Richman and Yitzchak Reuven ponder the implications of the korbanot, the Temple offerings, that most difficult and challenging area of Torah, the one that threatens everyone's comfort zone. Weekly Torah Portion: Tzav, with Rabbi Chaim Richman
How do you feel about yesterday? Are you being held back by what was? At dawn, a single kohen - priest - is chosen to remove from the altar an amount of ashes and places them at the base of the altar, a precedure known as 'trumat hadeshen' - the lifting up of the ashes and their removal to a pure place. Literally, 'yesterday's ashes.' Torah is teaching us, through the Temple service, how to deal with our yesterdays:
